About Persecution Monitor
Our Mission
Persecution Monitor exists to document, analyze, and raise awareness about the persecution of Christians worldwide, with a particular focus on underreported cases in regions such as India, Pakistan, Gaza, Nigeria, Syria, and increasingly in Western nations like France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Through a Catholic lens, we bear witness to the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Christ, collecting testimonies, reporting on incidents, and providing theological context to understand the spiritual significance of modern martyrdom and persecution.
We are committed to:
- Documentation: Collecting and verifying reports of persecution from reliable sources.
- Analysis: Examining patterns and trends in persecution to better understand its causes and contexts.
- Awareness: Sharing stories that often go untold in mainstream media.
- Solidarity: Fostering prayer and support for persecuted Christians worldwide.
- Advocacy: Promoting religious freedom as a fundamental human right.
Our Approach
Persecution Monitor approaches its work with several key principles:
- Fidelity to Truth: We are committed to accurate reporting, careful verification, and honest analysis.
- Catholic Perspective: We view persecution through the lens of Catholic teaching on suffering, martyrdom, and the universal Church.
- Respect for Dignity: We treat victims and survivors with the utmost respect, protecting their privacy and honoring their experiences.
- Nonpartisan Stance: While we may critique policies or ideologies that contribute to persecution, we maintain independence from political parties and movements.
- Constructive Engagement: We seek dialogue rather than confrontation, recognizing that lasting change requires mutual understanding.
Our History
Persecution Monitor was founded in 2025 by a group of Catholic journalists, academics, and human rights advocates concerned about the growing but underreported phenomenon of Christian persecution worldwide. Recognizing the need for a dedicated platform to document these cases and provide theological reflection, they established this site as a resource for both information and spiritual understanding.
The project began as a small-scale effort to collect testimonies from persecuted Christians, particularly in regions where their stories received little attention. Over time, it has expanded to include comprehensive country profiles, theological resources, and a growing library of reports and analysis.
While initially focused on the most severe cases of violent persecution, our scope has broadened to include the spectrum of discrimination, legal restrictions, social hostility, and other forms of pressure faced by Christians around the world.
Our Team
Persecution Monitor is maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers who bring diverse expertise in journalism, human rights documentation, theology, regional studies, and digital media. For security reasons and to protect our sources, particularly in sensitive regions, our team members remain anonymous.
Our contributors include:
- Journalists with experience reporting from conflict zones and restricted areas
- Human rights researchers specializing in religious freedom
- Theologians with expertise in Catholic teaching on suffering and martyrdom
- Regional specialists with deep knowledge of local contexts
- Digital security experts who help protect our sources and data
- Translators who ensure we can document cases in multiple languages
We also collaborate with a network of trusted partners around the world who help verify information and connect us with local communities experiencing persecution.
Our Methodology
Persecution Monitor employs a rigorous methodology to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our reporting:
- Source Verification: We carefully evaluate the credibility of all sources, seeking multiple confirmations when possible.
- Contextual Analysis: We examine incidents within their broader social, political, and historical contexts.
- Balanced Reporting: We strive to present multiple perspectives and avoid oversimplification.
- Protection of Sources: We employ strict protocols to protect the identity and security of vulnerable sources.
- Theological Reflection: We provide Catholic theological context while respecting diverse perspectives within Christianity.
- Regular Updates: We revisit and update our information as new developments emerge.
When we receive reports of persecution, we assess them based on multiple factors, including the reliability of the source, consistency with known patterns, availability of corroborating evidence, and contextual plausibility. We are transparent about the limitations of our information and avoid making claims that cannot be substantiated.
